A New Queen is Crowned! Take a look back at the winners of the World’s Ugliest Dog Competition

By Alissa Anderegg

A new Miss USA may have been crowned earlier this month, but another queen has just stolen the national spotlight. And she has four paws and a tail.

Meet Sweepee Rambo, the Chinese Crested Chihuahua that won the title of the World’s Ugliest Dog Friday night in Petaluma, California.

The annual anti-beauty pageant brought together seventeen pooches all vying for the $1,500 top prize. Each was judged on a variety of oddities including appearance, smell and complexion.

Although the competition was stiff, Sweepee– 17 years old, blind, bow-legged and almost completely hairless– reigned supreme.

But the competition isn’t about about poking fun of the contestants. Rather, organizers insist that the goal is “having fun with some wonderful characters and showing the world that these dogs are really beautiful!”

Classically cute? Probably not. Adorable? Indeed.
